General

Who should attend?

All students are welcome to attend, and you don’t want to miss this opportunity if:

You are an aspiring engineer/technologist.
You want to learn about the current trends and innovations in the field.
You want to connect to the WiE network in Silicon Valley and beyond.

How many tickets are for sale?

We can sell a maximum of 400 tickets to currently enrolled students. Please get your tickets as soon as possible as they were sold out early for the 2019 WiE Conference.

I can’t afford a ticket, but I would still like to attend, what are my options?

Volunteer. Help out for part of the day and get access to the rest of the conference. Limited spaces are available. Please send an email to wie-engineering@sjsu.edu.

What companies will be there?

This is a learning, networking and community-building event. More than 80 industry professionals from nearly 70 companies and organizations attended last year.

Should I bring my resume?

As a rule of thumb, you should never attend a potential networking activity without a copy of your resume. Throughout the conference, you will have opportunities to meet hiring managers and Human Resources professionals at workshops, career panels, and the Innovation Showcase and Networking Reception.

Is there a dress code for the conference?

Yes, the dress code will be business/business casual. No jeans or athletic wear.

Registration

What is included in my registration?

Access to all conference sessions and activities, conference swag bag, continental breakfast, lunch, and Innovation Showcase, and Networking reception.

What are the registration fees?

Early bird registrations are $20* and open November 15, 2020 – January 10, 2020. Regular registrations are $30* and open January 11, 2020 – February 28, 2020. Late registrations are $50*and available after February 28, 2020 – or until sold out.

*plus applicable Eventbrite fees.

Can I register on the day of the conference?

Yes, you can register at the front desk if there are available seats. The registration fee on the day of the conference is $50.

I am a student volunteer from SJSU. Do I have to register?

Once you’re selected as a volunteer, you will be provided instructions to register for the conference on Eventbrite.

I attended the conference last year as a student and found it inspiring. I have now graduated but would love to register again for this year’s conference. How can I register?

We are only registering current students for the 2020 WiE Conference.

What is the refund policy?

If you paid for a ticket and are no longer able to attend, you may request a refund until February 14, 2020 – by canceling your ticket through Eventbrite. Instructions can be found in your Eventbrite confirmation. No refunds will be issued after February 14, 2020. Questions can be addressed to wie-engineering@sjsu.edu.

Group Registrations

Are group registrations available?

Yes. If you would like to register a group of 5 to 25 students from your college, please register on Eventbrite using the “Group: Community Colleges & non-SJSU Universities” option. Please provide the number and names of students and your information.

What are the group registration rates?

A group rate of $20*/person will be available for groups of 5 to 25 students between now and February 28, 2020.

We would like to register for a group of students to attend the 2020 Women in Engineering Conference. But we can pay for it only through an invoice. How can we register?

Please contact the 2020 WiE Conference team at wie-engineering@sjsu.edu. We will send you a link to register and an invoice for the number of tickets registered at the group rate.

I am a student and my friends and I would like to register as a group.

Yes, you could if you are a group of 5-25 students. Please register on Eventbrite using the “Group: Community Colleges & non-SJSU Universities” option. Please provide the number and names of students and your information.

I would like to register a group but do not have the names of all the students. Can I still register on Eventbrite?

Yes, you can register on Eventbrite without having all the student information available. You can use your name and email address as a placeholder. You can access your registration later through the Eventbrite link and click on edit to change any information on the tickets. You could also email the 2020 WiE Conference team at wie-engineering@sjsu.edu for help to update student registration information.

I registered my students as a group but I want to edit some of the information. Can I do it?

Yes, please access your registration through the Eventbrite link and click on edit to change any information on the tickets. You could also email the 2020 WiE Conference team at wie-engineering@sjsu.edu for help to update student registration information.

I registered my students as a group, can I add more?

Unfortunately, you cannot add to the same group. But you can create a new registration.

I want to remove one member from the group registration. How do I do it?

Please email the 2020 WiE Conference team at wie-engineering@sjsu.edu.

Where do I park when I come to the conference?

SJSU North parking garage is the closest to the WiE Conference venue. Please click on http://2020.siliconvalleywie.org/maps/ for more details on parking and location.

Can I use public transportation to reach the conference venue?

Mark and Carolyn Guidry Women in Engineering Program Fund

Carolyn Guidry (1937-2009) was born in Mississippi and spent her childhood in the Deep South. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Louisiana State University in 1959. One week after graduation, she married Mark Guidry (1937-2020), a fellow electrical engineering major she met at LSU. Carolyn began her career at Boeing, but soon put her career on hold and devoted 20 years to raising their three children. She returned to school and earned her Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from SJSU in 1979. She joined Hewlett-Packard and was directly responsible for the development of a new flexible interconnect cable and the microcode for a new computer.

In partnership with Mark, Carolyn founded two successful companies in semiconductor design software and semiconductor product development. Both companies were later acquired and became leaders in their respective fields. After the second company was acquired by Integrated Circuit Systems in 1993, she founded the Mark and Carolyn Guidry Foundation and managed all aspects of the organization. She received an Award of Distinction from SJSU Davidson College of Engineering in 2006. Both she and Mark were inducted into the LSU College of Engineering Hall of Distinction in 2001.

Mark was a Louisiana native. After receiving his BSEE from LSU, he took a position at Boeing. He subsequently earned an MSEE from University of Washington and a Ph.D. from Iowa State University. He taught at LSU, where he conducted research in semiconductor technology, laser technology and radio wave propagation. Prior to founding their companies, Mark worked at Fairchild Semiconductor in Palo Alto, a small San Diego company and Texas Instruments in Houston.

All three of Carolyn and Mark’s children graduated with degrees in engineering. The Guidry family strongly believes in the power of education and the importance of developing engineering education in the U.S. for what lies ahead. The Mark and Carolyn Guidry Foundation has been a long-time leader in supporting women in engineering at SJSU. Its commitment and on-going support have made the Silicon Valley Women in Engineering program a model of success for educating new woman innovators regionally and nationally.
